Cancer Survivor

In 1990 I thought I had a hernia and went to the doctor.  It turned out to be a cancerous tumor.  I had a bone marrow test which was also not good.  The doctor diagnosed my cancer as Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma.  Because I had waited so long to seek treatment I would be given the most powerful chemotherapy drugs available.  You can't appreciate the discomfort unless you go through it yourself.  The chemo makes you sick and you sleep for a couple days.  After one week I lost all my hair.  I was on chemotherapy for six months.  The tumor was gone and my bone marrow tests came back good.   I was lucky because doctors had a new medicine to treat the upset stomach that accompanies chemotherapy.  I also took a new medicine to increase my white cells which often get very low during chemo.  Otherwise, any infection could get you in big trouble.  After 5 years of treatment I am in 100% remission.  The only lingering problem I have is in my lungs, they don't seem to work as good anymore.  That may also have something to do with my quitting smoking about 12 years ago.

These are a few of the windmills I made while
undergoing chemotherapy.
